There are many taxi services in London, but only one has teamed with Vodafone to try out a new idea that gives customers a new service while getting the brand out onto the streets. The new fleet of Vodafone-branded taxis will feature support for mobile phone payment points so that riders can pay for their journey using their handsets. This is not technically near filed communication but it comes pretty close to the concept.
For example, the service allows users to send a text message to the taxi number and they are charged accordingly. Each taxi will also possess a charging point inside the cab to allow riders to charge their devices if necessary. Vodafone executives say they have already mande hundreds of improvements to increase coverage, capacity and reliability to ensure that Londoners can always stay in touch with friends and family. Heathrow Express trains are next in line to get the Vodafone branding treatment.
